Factory visits by cluster and Guangzhou wholesale markets

15 min read · last checked 2026-10-22 · by the Uncle Panda team

Factory clusters you can reach from Guangzhou, how to arrange a visit, and the main wholesale markets.

At a glance

  • "See the fair first, then the factory" is the reported pattern for the 140th edition. Many Pearl River Delta suppliers send a car to collect buyers, and factories are commonly 30-40 minutes' drive from Pazhou. The furniture towns of Longjiang and Lecong (Foshan) are about 45-60 minutes away.
  • Visits need an appointment. Some sites also want a name list and passport details in advance, vehicle registration or a company letter, and they ban photos in workshops.
  • If you sleep anywhere other than a hotel (factory dorm, friend's flat, short-let), you must register with police within 24 hours. Online registration has been available nationwide since 21 Sept 2026.
  • Realistic pace: about 3 meetings a day within one city, or about 2 when you cross cities (not confirmed).
  • Reported car-with-driver day rates in Guangzhou: CNY 350-700 for a sedan, CNY 400-900 for an MPV (8h/100km, agency article). Interpreters: CNY 400-800/day English, CNY 600-1,000 other languages (market rates cited by an agency). Both are not confirmed.
  • Gap days Oct 28-30 fall on Wednesday to Friday, so they are normal working days for factories and markets while the halls are shut to buyers. Hotels are reported to be less full on gap days.
  • Shisanhang clothing market works mornings. Sources disagree on closing time (14:00, 16:00 or 17:00). Plan to arrive by about 08:00-09:00 and finish by 13:00.
  • Phase 2 overlap: the Guzhen Lighting Fair in Zhongshan runs Oct 22-25.

Part A. Factory visits

How visits are usually arranged

  • By the supplier. Many exhibitors offer a car to their factory. Example: a Foshan window and door maker advertises a free return car from Pazhou or your hotel during Phase 2, about 45 minutes each way. Supplier cars are not independent, so confirm the address, the appointment and that there is no purchase obligation.
  • By a hired car and interpreter. A buyer on a forum thread with a factory shortlist wanted transport plus an English-Chinese interpreter with factory experience. A social media request asks for itemised prices covering car, hours, overtime and factory-meeting translation.
  • By organised programmes. The fair runs "Trade Bridge - China Industry Tour" visits to manufacturing clusters. Zengcheng district runs evening desks (18:00-20:00) at 8 hotels for "1+1" factory-plus-culture day tours. Zhongshan's Nantou town held an appliance matchmaking day near Nantou Railway Station with showroom testing in the morning and factory visits in the afternoon (47 local firms, 53 overseas buyers). A social media post claims a commerce-department day trip to Guangzhou high-tech factories on a first-come basis; the organiser was not verified.

What to confirm before you go

A guide with about 10 years hosting foreign groups suggests confirming:

  • whether you may enter production areas, and which lines;
  • whether photos are allowed;
  • whether a name list and passport details must be sent in advance.

And before any group trip, agree the purpose, the real decision-maker, who is coming, what outcome makes the trip worthwhile, and must-haves versus nice-to-haves.

General plant-tour rules seen elsewhere (they vary by factory): advance appointment, vehicle registration, a company confirmation letter, sometimes an organisation introduction letter, group sizes of 10-40 and ages 18-60, and no photos in workshops (not confirmed).

Visa note: factory-visit trips commonly use an M business visa with a Chinese company invitation; documents vary by nationality and consulate. The 240-hour visa-free transit allows business visits, but only for the 57 listed countries, and India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, the Philippines and Turkey are not among them.

What to check on site is covered in Chapter 9, section 4 (registry, workshop, sealed samples, 5-name match).

Demand signals from the 140th edition: Latin American delegations reportedly drove straight from the halls to Shunde appliance plants; Shenzhen and Dongguan received post-fair inspections for electronics and machinery; a Spanish interpreter was sought for an 8-hour Foshan factory visit on Oct 31 leaving from Pazhou; a buyer from Pakistan on a forum thread is sourcing kitchens, wardrobes, tiles, sanitaryware, doors, lighting and furniture in Foshan.

AnecdotesCNY 1,500 for a factory-inspection day; CNY 600-1,200/day plus expenses; "5 days, a bit over CNY 10,000"comments / low

Do not confuse these with booth-interpreter wages paid by exhibitors (about CNY 200-600 a day for student or junior booth staff). That is a different job.

Rough combined budget (arithmetic illustration only, not a market quote): a Guangzhou sedan at CNY 350-700 plus an English interpreter at CNY 400-800 sums to roughly CNY 750-1,500 for the day before tolls, parking, meals and overtime. Get one written quote that lists each of those items.

If the interpreter will also work inside the halls, a fair interpreter badge is reported to cost CNY 300/day plus a CNY 50 card fee, applied by the buyer at least 2 days ahead. Factory days outside the fair do not need it.

Safety, ID and licensing

  • Carry your passport. Factories may ask for passport details in advance.
  • Police registration within 24 hours applies if you stay overnight anywhere other than a hotel, for example a factory dorm.
  • Paid car-and-guide services are travel-agency business under the Tourism Law; unlicensed operators can be fined CNY 10,000-100,000. A licensed charter should show a road transport permit, vehicle operating licence, qualified driver and liability insurance; the contract should state plate, hours/km, overtime, tolls/parking and driver meals.
  • Taxis must use the meter, and you pay tolls; complaints to 12345.
  • Beware "free guide" or "free translator" offers that steer you to unlicensed workshops.

Sample one-day route: Foshan furniture (Longjiang and Lecong)

Best for: Phase 2 furniture buyers on a gap day (Oct 28-30) or the day after Phase 2. Assumes appointments are confirmed in advance. All clock times are estimates built from the reported drive time and opening hours.

Variants (same structure, different town):

  • Appliances: Shunde Beijiao and Ronggui; on a fair day some appliance buyers stay near Beijiao on Metro Line 7, which links to Line 8 for Pazhou.
  • Lighting: Guzhen by intercity from Guangzhou South (21-36 min); during Phase 2 the Guzhen Lighting Fair runs Oct 22-25 (halls A-H; hall B is design and home lighting). The early-registration deadline (Oct 18, 15:00) has passed; the note says on-site registration costs CNY 100 and entry was by ID card (not confirmed).
  • Hardware and tiles: Guangfo Hardware City in Dali (about 55 min) plus Nanzhuang tiles.

A one-day run of 4 factories over 300 km has been advertised; treat that as the outer limit, not a plan.

Part B. Guangzhou wholesale markets

Guangzhou has 508 specialised wholesale markets. Many buyers want to see markets and factories after the fair to check the supply chain, for example Lecong, Xinji Shaxi and Yide Road.

General rules reported across markets:

  • Most stalls do not accept returns; check fabric and stitching and keep receipts. Many markets have couriers downstairs.
  • "First-hand" stalls with their own factories usually do not retail and want 5-10 pieces minimum.
  • Walk-in prices at retail-friendly malls are often inflated; bargain.
  • Markets are busy during the fair; allow extra time.
  • Do not follow street touts around the leather markets.
  • Several markets offer forwarders, container loading and customs help; some sit in the "1039" export scheme explained in Chapter 9.

The Shisanhang hours conflict

  • 09:00-14:00 (TravelChinaGuide, 2025) versus 07:00-16:00 (a 2026 source), both in.
  • 08:00-17:00, best 08:00-13:00, with many stalls closing after midday (140th-edition first-hand note, 2026-10-16).
  • A Douyin creator who guides clients there gives no hours.

Working rule: arrive by 08:00-09:00 and finish your main buying by 13:00. All sources agree mornings are the window.

Market pairings that save a day

  • Toys and gifts (P2 gifts buyers or P3 toy buyers): Yide toy plaza, Wanling Plaza and Yiyuan Gift City are a few minutes apart. Finish by 16:00.
  • Textiles (Phase 3): Zhongda is the closest market to Pazhou.
  • Hotel and catering supplies (P2 kitchenware buyers): Xinji Shaxi and Haotai in one half-day.
  • Leather and shoes: Sanyuanli and Zhanxi are both near Guangzhou Railway Station.

Concurrent trade shows near Pazhou

  • P3: Asian Bags & Luggage Fair, Oct 30-Nov 2, Inspiration Innovation Pavilion opposite Area D (Line 8 Xingangdong Exit F), open to 20:00.
  • P3: Guangzhou International Fashion & Lifestyle Fair, Oct 30-Nov 2 at PWTC Expo.
  • P2: an artificial plants and garden export fair is described as running alongside Phase 2 at the Inspiration Expo Center, 3 minutes' walk away; source dates are from the spring edition (not confirmed).

Do / Don't

Do

  • Confirm appointment, production-area access, photo rules and passport list before you drive out.
  • Budget about 2 cross-city or 3 same-city visits a day.
  • Get one written quote for car and interpreter that lists hours, overtime, tolls, parking and meals.
  • Register with police within 24 hours if you stay at a factory dorm or private flat.
  • Go to clothing markets early; Shisanhang is a morning market.

Don't

  • Don't rely on a factory's website for its size; check the registry.
  • Don't accept a supplier's free car without a confirmed address and agenda.
  • Don't follow street touts at the leather markets.
  • Don't expect Huaqiangbei stalls to take foreign cards or ship abroad themselves.

Still to confirm

  • Shisanhang hours: 09:00-14:00 vs 07:00-16:00 vs 08:00-17:00. Check on the day.
  • Baima hours: 08:30-17:30 vs 08:30-18:30.
  • Beijiao "20-30 min from Guangzhou South by Metro Line 7" comes from a marketing source; check on Amap.
  • Huizhou and Jiangmen (Heshan): no sourced product-cluster description; they only appear in charter and itinerary examples.
  • Car and interpreter rates: no body-readable, dated Guangzhou factory-route quote. Official interpreter rates are search-indexed only, date unknown.
  • Hualin Jade Street address conflict.
  • Pazhou to Guangzhou South door-to-door time not sourced; needed for intercity factory trips.
  • Garden fair "concurrent with Phase 2" uses spring-edition dates.
