Wuzhen is about 1–1.5 hours by car from Hangzhou. The West Scenic Area (Xizha) stays open into the evening, which is when it looks best.
Best way to see it
- Arrive in the afternoon and walk the canal streets
- Dinner inside the scenic area
- Stay for the night lights
Night boat rides can queue on busy days; go early or book ahead.
Sights
Houses built over the water, an old dye workshop and post office; best after dark. Ticket ¥150; shared rowing boat ¥60 per person one way.

Good to know
- Bring a light jacket for the evening by the water in spring and autumn.
