Food at the fair: halal, vegetarian and South Asian options
Food courts in each Area, halal-marked outlets, vegetarian and South Asian options nearby, and the rule on delivered food.
At a glance
- Every Area has food courts serving Chinese and Western fast food, with dining maps posted in corridors. The 140th catering map pins about 21 outlets in Area A, 12 in Area B, 7 in Area C and 7 in Area D.
- Halal inside the complex: the 140th catering map marks one halal fast-food outlet (green HALAL icon) in each Area: Area A #6 Dong Yang Ke (东羊客), Area B #3 and Area C #5 Baiyun Airport Catering (白云天厨), Area D #4 West Coast Canteen (西海拾光). The map does not name a certifying body, and the official Phase 1 guide does not claim halal catering.
- Outside food deliveries cannot enter the complex. Order from the in-complex restaurants, which offer advance ordering and delivery inside the venue.
- Beat the lunch rush: food courts and nearby restaurants are overwhelmed at peak lunch; eat before 11:30 or after 13:30. The reposted catering-map image also asks visitors to stagger meals (not confirmed).
- Halal dinners have the most options in Yuexiu, around Xiaobei/Baohan Street, Huanshi Road and the old city mosques. Pazhou itself has few halal options; Xiaobei is about 30-40 min away.
- Pure vegetarian is harder than halal near the venue. Named vegan/vegetarian places are a Tianhe vegan restaurant and Indian pure-veg restaurants on Huanshi East / Lujing Road.
- Delivery to your hotel works via the Meituan mini-program inside WeChat, which supports international phone numbers and foreign-card payment.
- Four main mosques are in Yuexiu District (Huaisheng, Xianxian, Haopan, Xiaodongying). The fair's Phase 1 guide lists a meditation room; it is not described as a Muslim prayer room.
6.1 Eating inside the complex
The catering page is a third-party repost, not an official page. Halal-marked outlet operation, festival dates and other image-only claims are not confirmed. The official delivered-food ban is independently supported for Phase 1 only.
What exists. All four Areas have internal food courts. The 140th catering map lists Western and international outlets: in Area A, KFC, Starbucks, McDonald's, PizziT Italian pizza, a Latin grillhouse and MASAL/MiCasa (Turkish/Mexican); in Area B, Starbucks and McDonald's; in Area C, McDonald's; in Area D, KFC and Dicos. Area B's restaurant is piloting 4 cooking robots this edition; robot kitchens at the fair are reported to produce 250 servings an hour.
Quality and price. A Phase 1 visitor called the canteen food fine and not greasy, but somewhat pricey. No current menu prices were found (not confirmed).
Snacks found in halls. A Phase 1 visitor bought self-heating eel rice in Hall 2.1 and reported it in Halls 1.1-5.1. Halal status not stated, and Phase 1 vendors may not stay for Phase 2 or Phase 3.
Rules.
- Delivered food and drinks (boxed meals from Meituan, Ele.me, etc.) may not enter the complex. The map's bilingual notice reads: "delivered food and drinks are not allowed to enter the Complex" (大会禁止外送盒饭进馆). This was confirmed in the Phase 1 guide and on the catering page; one secondary guide says your own outside food is generally fine in common areas. Follow on-site signage.
- In-complex restaurants take advance orders and deliver within the venue. A commenter suggests ordering from the in-venue Ducheng outlet an hour ahead (vendor and halal status unconfirmed).
- Beware flyers offering meal delivery inside the halls; one commenter warns of meal-order scams and suggests checking the vendor online.
Queues. Peak lunch is the problem, not food supply. Eat before 11:30 or after 13:30. Forum answers echo "avoid exact lunchtime".
Music & Cuisine Festival (Phase 2 and Phase 3 dates)
| Venue | Phase 2 | Phase 3 | Hours | What |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Area A Atrium Garden (A区中庭花园) | Oct 23-26 | Oct 31-Nov 3 | 18:00-20:00 | Band, heritage show, buffet, beer |
| Area D, opposite Hall 20.1 / west side of the Convention Center | Oct 23-27 | Oct 31-Nov 4 | 12:00-14:00 | Cantonese food and heritage crafts |
Source: 140th catering page. A separate post confirms the "Eat in Guangzhou" carnival runs only during each phase, not on gap days. Vendors include Guangzhou Restaurant (shrimp dumplings, rice noodles), Lin Heung, Bao Dao and Liyin; there are free tastings and "10-minute business set meals". Halal status of the carnival stalls is not stated. Vouchers are distributed through Guangzhou Metro, UnionPay QuickPass and the Nihao China app; whether foreigners can claim them is unverified. Guangzhou is issuing RMB 20 million in dining vouchers over the fair, but the claim method may need Chinese app accounts.
6.2 Eating near Pazhou
- Nanfeng Hui (南丰汇), directly across Xingang Dong Road from Area A, is the closest mall: a directory image (April 2026) lists 20+ food and drink brands including McDonald's, Domino's, Starbucks, Luckin, Heytea and Chagee, plus a FamilyMart, and calls it the most crowded at lunch. It also lists two Lanzhou beef noodle chains, Chen Xiang Gui (陈香贵) and Ma Ji Yong (马记永). The directory shows no halal mark for them; ask before ordering.
- Malls within walking distance: Lovemall Wanmin Starlight City (万民星光城), newly opened, 100+ dining and retail brands; Nanfung Mall, near Langham Place. ICBC card coupons (RMB 20 off 100, RMB 50 off 200); confirm your card qualifies before counting on them.
- Poly Plaza / Wanshengwei, about one metro stop or a 10-min walk: Zhazhabo clay pot (5/F Poly Plaza, 10 Xingang East Rd), Hailonge seafood (6/F), Liangge Village roasted pigeon on Pazhou Avenue; commenters recommend going to Wanshengwei or Kecun for meals. These are spring 2026 recommendations; recheck.
- Party Pier (珠江琶醍) beer and culture district, adjacent to the complex, is the main evening dining and networking strip, with international restaurants and riverside terraces.
- Cantonese with a river view: He Tang Ju (和汤居, Pazhou branch), about RMB 80 per person.
- Kecun: Liying Plaza for food if you stay there.
- Booking: restaurants near the venue have queues and slow delivery at mealtimes; book a table, possibly across the river in Tianhe, after checking traffic (written by a restaurant promoting itself). For client dinners, confirm a private room in advance.
None of the Pazhou restaurants above is described as halal or vegetarian by its source.
6.3 Halal food: verified vs claimed
Read the labels in this section carefully. "Marked halal" means the source says so; none of the sources shows a certificate.
Tier 1: marked halal on a reposted venue catering map (inside the complex)
| Area | Outlet | Source |
|---|---|---|
| A | #6 Dong Yang Ke (东羊客), 清真快餐 halal fast food | |
| B | #3 Baiyun Airport Catering (白云天厨), 清真快餐 | |
| C | #5 Baiyun Airport Catering (白云天厨), 清真快餐 | |
| D | #4 West Coast Canteen (西海拾光), 清真快餐 |
This page was read from a 140th venue-guide image reposted on a social media post on Oct 13. Treat outlet numbers as the map's pins and confirm at the counter. Note that the official Phase 1 guide does not establish halal catering and the official facts warn not to claim it from that guide.
Tier 2: restaurant claims halal certification
- Hui Min Restaurant (回民饭店), Cantonese-style halal food, claims HALAL certification; 325 Zhongshan 6th Rd, Yuexiu, 50 m left of Ximenkou (西门口) Metro Exit A; near Huaisheng Mosque, Chen Clan Ancestral Hall and Beijing Road. Halal dim sum (beef siu mai, rice rolls) from about 07:00, widest choice before 11:00. Commenters also suggest it.
- Hot Stone Mediterranean, 333 Zhongshan 7th Rd, Liwan, listed by one guide as halal-certified (per-guide only).
Tier 3: described as halal or recommended for Muslim clients (not verified; addresses from mid-2026 lists, recheck)
| Restaurant | Address / location given | What the source says | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sultan (苏坦), Bosphorus (铂斯) (Turkish) | Not given | Long-standing anchors reviewed by Muslim travellers; recommended by someone hosting Middle Eastern clients | |
| Antalya (安塔利亚) (Turkish) | Liede Ave, Tianhe, near Tiande Plaza; "beside IGC" | Described as halal by a guide and a commenter | |
| Otantik (欧坦) | Unit 102, 1F, 81 Huangpu West Ave (Zhujiang New Town) | Author calls it halal and foreigner-friendly | |
| Aimi'er (艾米儿) | Room 201, 376 Huanshi East Rd, about 150 m east of Taojin (淘金) Exit A | On an author's halal list | |
| Dongyangke (东羊客) | 4F Sunshine Hotel, 199 Huangpu Middle Ave | On an author's halal list (same brand name as the Area A outlet) | |
| Xixingjia (西行家) Xinjiang conveyor hotpot | 1F Xinhua Bldg, 260 Xiaobei Rd, about 30 m from Xiaobei Exit A; also Yuehui City (4F, 150 Xiwan Rd, Liwan), CapitaMall Yunshang (B1, 697 Baiyun Dadao South), Jiayu Sun City (3F, 1811 Guangzhou Dadao North) | Self-described Muslim hotpot brand and "halal canteen for foreign buyers"; no certificate mentioned | |
| Asian Bee Harvest (亚洲蜂采) | 9F Asia International Hotel | On halal list, evening buffet | |
| Hong Hui (弘汇) (halal Western/Yemeni) | Not given | Packed during the fair; find your own seat; 2F non-smoking needs a wait, upstairs shisha area may have space; lamb mandi rice, one portion feeds two | |
| Xinjiang Mansion (新疆大厦) | 76-80 Tianhe North Rd | Halal dim sum recommended, but a commenter says it changed owners and status needs checking | |
| Middle Eastern restaurants around Taojin/Xiaobei | Area only | Commenter lead |
Where the halal clusters are
- Xiaobei (小北) / Baohan Street, Line 5: Lanzhou beef noodles, Xinjiang lamb skewers and naan, Turkish grills, Arabic and African eateries within a 10-min walk; best in the evening; look for 清真 (qīngzhēn) signs, the clientele and an open kitchen.
- Huanshi East Rd / Taojin: Asia International Hotel and nearby restaurants.
- Old city around Huaisheng Mosque: lanes have halal eateries.
- Halal-friendly hotels with in-house halal dining: see Chapter 5.6.
A practical halal day plan
The specialist guide's tactic: eat a light lunch at the fair, carry dates, fruit or packaged snacks, and have dinner in Xiaobei or the old city; delegations pre-book halal group dinners with timed transport. At the venue, use the Tier 1 outlet in the Area you are working in.
6.4 Mosques and prayer space
| Place | Location | Notes | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Huaisheng Mosque (怀圣寺光塔, Lighthouse Mosque) | Guangta Rd, Yuexiu | Tang-era 36 m minaret; 5 daily prayers; Jumu'ah busy; non-Muslims courtyard only, outside prayer times | |
| Xianxian Mosque (先贤清真寺) | Jiefang North Rd, near Yuexiu Park | Largest; tomb of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas | |
| Haopan Mosque (濠畔清真寺) | Yuexiu | Ming-era garden style | |
| Xiaodongying Mosque (小东营清真寺) | Yuexiu, in an alley | Smallest |
Entry rules differ by mosque, so ask politely at the gate. Friday prayers: Phase 2 opens on Friday Oct 23; Oct 30 is a Friday in the changeover gap; Phase 3 (Sat Oct 31 to Wed Nov 4) has no Friday. If you want Jumu'ah at Huaisheng on Oct 23, plan to leave the fair by late morning and expect it to be busy.
Prayer rooms.
- At the fair: the official Phase 1 guide lists a "meditation room". It is not described as a dedicated Muslim prayer room, and Phase 2/3 continuity and location are not confirmed. Ask at an information desk; do not plan on it.
- Hotels: Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Centre has a dedicated prayer room; Rongtong Golden Eagle and Asia International Hotel provide prayer rugs and Qibla markings or compasses (spring 2026 releases).
- Airport: as of Aug 2026, Baiyun T2 had a halal restaurant (Xiang Man Lou, Chinese Muslim dishes) and a prayer room; reconfirm on arrival.
6.5 Vegetarian, vegan, Jain
- Shupu Vegan Restaurant (蔬朴生活), Tianhe: 100% vegan (no meat, fish, eggs, dairy, alcohol or the five pungent alliums), with Chinese, English and Arabic menus; dumplings, curries, pasta, pizza; book ahead. Its Chinese post says about 10 min drive from the Guangzhou International Sourcing Center; the English post says about 10 min from the fair complex. Exact address not given.
- Sharmaji Indian Veggie, inside Baiyun Hotel, 367 Huanshi East Rd, fully vegetarian, RMB 80-140 per person.
- Sai Sagar Pure Veg, Gitic Commercial Center, Lujing Rd, vegetarian and Jain, RMB 80-130.
- Foyouyuan vegetarian, listed by a spring 2026 guide.
- Airport lounges at Baiyun take pre-registered halal and vegetarian meal requests for fair buyers.
The supplied catering-map transcription does not identify a vegetarian-specific outlet; it is not a complete vegetarian-menu audit (not confirmed). Ask about dishes rather than assuming there are none.
6.6 Indian and South Asian food
The gap: the supplied transcription of Western and international outlets does not name an Indian or South Asian restaurant. This is not proof none operates inside (not confirmed). Named city options are listed below.
Ten Indian restaurants from a March 2026 agency guide (prices per person as stated; halal status not certified, confirm with staff):
| Restaurant | Area | RMB per person |
|---|---|---|
| Bombay Grill | Taojin, Yuexiu | 90-150 |
| Rangoli | Tianhe; also Panyu | 100-180 |
| Sharmaji Indian Veggie (pure veg) | Baiyun Hotel, 367 Huanshi East Rd | 80-140 |
| Kohinoor | Lujing Rd, Yuexiu | 90-150 |
| Sai Sagar Pure Veg (veg/Jain) | Gitic Commercial Center, Lujing Rd | 80-130 |
| Urban Spice | Tianhe | 90-150 |
| Tandoor (fine dining) | Asia International Hotel, Taojin | 200-300 |
| Masala King / Masalaking (North Indian) | Not stated | Not stated |
| Little India | Address via map link only | Not stated |
Taxi from the fair to these is reported at 10-25 min and RMB 20-60; metro Lines 8 and 3. Asia International Hotel also has a Nepalese restaurant.
6.7 Delivery and ordering apps
- Meituan (美团): the main app has no English. Use the Meituan mini-program inside WeChat, translate the page, and pay with WeChat Pay; international phone registration works; pay by international card, Alipay or WeChat Pay. A commenter says Meituan no longer needs a Chinese phone number, and calls it a must for delivery and restaurant queue numbers. Others paid Meituan through Alipay with a linked foreign card or Wise.
- Taobao Flash Purchase (ex-Ele.me): no English in the app or Alipay mini-program; works with an international phone and Alipay/WeChat Pay.
- Translation: WeChat's Scan > Translate photo-translates menus and signs.
- Delivery to hotels: some hotels make you collect at the lobby.
- Not to the halls: outside deliveries are not allowed into the complex.
6.8 Ordering phrases (show the Chinese)

| Prayer room at venue | Only a meditation room in the Phase 1 guide | Ask at the information desk |
| Dining vouchers for foreigners | Claimed via Chinese channels | Whether foreign phones or cards qualify |
