# Hangzhou

Hangzhou is the lakeside city of Zhejiang, built around West Lake, with the Lingyin Temple and the Xixi wetlands close by. It is easy to walk and gentle to travel, and the lake looks different in every season. Hangzhou Xiaoshan airport has direct flights to Singapore.

## West Lake

West Lake is free to walk around and looks different in every season: cherry blossom in late March, autumn colours from mid-November. The paths along the lake are flat, and bikes and carts are available.

Sights around the lake include Broken Bridge, Bai Causeway and Su Causeway. Walking them is free; boats out to Three Pools Mirroring the Moon are extra.

## Best way to see it

- Walk the West Lake causeways, then see Leifeng Pagoda and Hefang Street.
- Pair Lingyin Temple and Feilai Peak with Xixi Wetland.
- Wuzhen water town is an easy half day away.

Lingyin–Feilai Peak is free but needs a real-name time-slot booking made at least a day ahead.

## Good to know

- Lakeside restaurants are busy at weekends; book ahead.
- Ignore people selling expensive incense outside temples; three sticks are given free inside.
